Smiling triggers happy chemicals in the brain

Song of Ascension

“You are the salt of the earth
You are the light of the world
Let your light so shine before men
that they may see your good works in the world.”
~ Christ Jesus, Sermon on the Mountain
“Enlightenment is not imagining figures of light, but making the darkness conscious.” – Carl Jung
“Each soul is a note of light
in the music of the spheres
Together we weave the melody of creation
If we are to co-create a new earth
We must learn to sing with the harmony of the stars.
“Our love is like the misty rain that falls softly, but floods the river.” – African Proverb
Our song of light can flood the world like a rising tide
Releasing old paradigms of old and duality
And allowing ourselves to ascend to the higher vibrational levels
Of unconditional love and oneness with all that is

What is progress?

I was reflecting on an ebook I read by Survival International about how progress and development can harm native people and their natural environment. I was sad when I read that as I love nature and I have always admired how native people adapt well to their environment for thousands of years and live in harmony with nature. But many of them are suffering from loss of lifestyle and land when the government and developers are intruding and taking away their land for development.

Many native people could not adapt well to modern lifestyle because they are more suited to living in a natural environment.

"It is not that the Yanomami do not want progress, or other things that white people have. They want to be able to choose and not have change thrust upon them, whether they want it or not.

I am not saying I am against progress. I think it is very good when whites come to work amongst the Yanomami to teach reading and writing and to plant and use medicinal plants. This for us is progress. What we do not want are the mining companies which destroy the forest and the miners, who bring so many diseases. These whites must respect our Yanomami land. The miners bring guns, alcohol and prostitution and destroy all nature wherever they go.

For us this is not progress. We want progress without destruction."

- Davi Kopenawa, Yanomami shaman, Brazil, 2003

"What kind of development is it when the people lead shorter lives than before? They catch HIV/AIDS. Our children are beaten in school and won't go. Some become prostitutes. They are not allowed to hunt. They fight because they are bored and get drunk. They are starting to commit suicide. We never saw that before. Is this 'development'?"

Comedy TV series: Mind Your Language - After Three

The comedy TV series "Mind Your Language" came to my mind recently - it reminds me a bit of Peter Russell's comedy skits, where people laugh at the humour over cultural differences and diversities - it is quite entertaining and relaxing to watch.

According to wikipedia:
"Mind Your Language is a British comedy television series, that premiered on ITV in late 1977. Produced by LWT and directed by Stuart Allen, it is set in an adult education college in London and focuses on the English as a Foreign Language class taught by Mr. Jeremy Brown, portrayed by Barry Evans, who had to deal with a motley crew of foreign students. Three series were made by LWT between 1977–79, and the show was briefly revived in 1986 with six of the original cast."

"Mind Your Language - After Three" (Part 2)

I was watching both parts of the above episode of the comedy TV series just now - I had a good laugh at the cultural humour - I suppose the cultural stereotypical portrayals of certain countries like China (with communist propaganda), Spain (bullfighting), etc were intentionally exaggerated for comic effect - besides, the show was made in the 1970s - so, in a way, it reflected the general perception of other cultures by the British back then - I thought it is kinda refreshing to see peoples of different cultures learning together a common subject and enjoying one another's company regardless of their cultural/language differences - it's like a mini united nations - unity with diversity. :)
